Tiny Gesture

Even the smallest of architectural interventions can have a lasting and deeply satisfying impact. Our client came to us seeking a small roofed garage structure on his heritage property in Westcliff. Our design process was to strip the building to its bare essentials, and create something which vanished into the lush shrubbery: the result, a pared-down steel scissors-truss structure that nestles between the existing buildings. The use of a dark palette, crisp clean lines and extra-light materials, rather than a too-direct referencing of the site's heritage features, won the day.

On completion, we were delighted with our tiny architectural gesture. A bespoke structure that through contrasting with the weightiness of the existing buildings falls into harmony with them.
