The Auckland Park Preparatory School’s hall extension – a widening of the existing building’s footprint by approximately a third, and the raising of its roof – demonstrates the advantages of achieving a greater overall volume without a complete rebuild or the duplication of facilities. The extension accommodates many more seats, removes current obstacles in site lines between audience and stage, and enhances the connection between the hall and the music garden.

With a better sized and equipped hall, APPS will have the flexibility to stage different types of performances, each of which currently face certain constraints. The space will remain adaptable, with removable chairs, so that the hall floor will be available for a variety of activities.
