Family Home Update

This gem of a heritage house whose contemporary addition had not aged well needed freshening up for its new owners. A new, pared-down materials palette knitted together the existing built elements into a more harmonious assembly. In three strategic areas of focus, the connections between indoor and outdoor were enhanced so that the house became much more a part of its newly landscaped garden, with light ingress significantly improved. The contemporary parts of the house now speak a language of crisp steel and glass, contrasting with its earthy heritage features. Planted verandah stairs were re-worked and the entrance courtyard carefully groomed. With well considered furnishing by the client, the result is a unified family home deeply integrated with its generous garden spaces.
